INSTRUCTIONS / FORMS FOR VHS LEARNING
THE VHS LEARNING COOPERATIVE
VHS has been internationally recognized as a model for K-12 online education. Through participation in VHS, Lyme-Old Lyme High School has expanded the course offerings for its students, making available innovative, high-quality courses that it might not otherwise have been able to offer.
Member schools select one or more faculty members to teach over the Internet. These teachers receive online training in how to teach netcourses in ways that are student-centered, collaborative and that make effective use of technology.
For each teacher released by his/her school to teach a VHS netcourse, the school is able to register 25 students per semester in courses of their choosing within the VHS catalog. In addition, each school identifies a site coordinator who is trained to act as an advisor and administrative contact for VHS students in their school.
OUR VHS STAFF
Lyme-Old Lyme High School students are advised by Maggie Dewey, our VHS Site Coordinator. Those interested in registering for a VHS course should contact Maggie Dewey at (860) 434-1651 x1021 or deweym@region18.org.
Lyme-Old Lyme High School contributes to the VHS cooperative through John Wang, who teaches Chinese.
THE VHS CALENDAR
Students may select either semester-long or year-long courses from the VHS catalog. The VHS calendar differs from the Lyme-Old Lyme Public Schools calendar, with classes continuing through some of our break periods, but finishing well before our school year ends. More detail is shown on the VHS Calendar page.
