MILE CREEK MUSIC
Mile Creek Music
Steve Ernst - Teacher
PreK - Students have General Music once a week for 30 mintes. In this class, we sing, dance and play instruments (hand-held percussion). The curriculum follows the PreK classroom calander. Students gain self awareness and confidence in making music both vocally and physically. Children are introduced to a wide variety of Musical Genres and styles.
Grade K - Again, we sing, dance, and play instruments and start to add the Musical alphabet through xylophone playing. Students perform in public for the first time. They are learning more about style and musical origin. Recognition of Musical form and instrument sounds are incorporated through listening.
Grade 1 - In addition to singing, and playing we now are starting to read both words and rhythms through Musical notation and lyric sheets. Xylophone parts are more advanced than in Kindergarten with sharps and flats as part of the recognition process. Students perform one public performance.
Grade 2 - Now we are adding written Sheet Music and books to the curriculum. Students are reading from published music as well as playing, singing and dancing. Music History is introduced through multi-cultural musical experiences. A public performance is again part of the school year.
Music is used in all school assemblies and is an integral part of the Mile Creek Character Education program. Students also weave musical knowledge and experiences through their other subject areas. Mr. Ernst's Motto is:" Everbody everywhere has music that they make to share," Please feel free to stop by the Mile Creek Music Room to read the walls and gain a greater understanding of how the performing arts enhance the overall educational experience of every student.
