Welcome to the
Mile Creek School Computer Lab
My name is Tisha Kirk, I am the Technology Facilitator at Mile Creek School. My focus here is to help familiarize your child with using the computer as a tool and not just for games. Here at Mile Creek School we use Pixie, Type to Learn, Word, Power Point, Excel and Publisher.
In Kindergarten we start off with Kidpix. This is a drawing program that allows us to focus on proper mouse skills, inserting a text box and introducing "helper keys" such as the shift key for capitalization.
In First grade we continue with Kidpix, but add in other programs such asWord and web based programs. While using the text box we make sure to use the correct number of spaces between words and using correct punctuation and capitalization. We introduce Type to Learn at the end of First Grade.
By Second grade we introduce the children to Word and Publisher and practice skills such as centering correctly and inserting clip art. We also introduce touch typing using a program called Type to Learn.
Third grades are introduced to Power Point, Excel, Word, Publisher. We will also introduce Neos which are small laptop style devices that are used to teach touch typing or keyboarding. Sometime during the school year we will be introducing the students to Outlook.
Fourth graders will become proficient in touch typing with the use of Neos. They will be exposed to various methods of creating multi-media presentations and fine tune their skills in the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook.
