The LOLHS Social Studies Department has established the following guidelines and expectations to show students the way to a highly successful, enjoyable and rewarding learning experience this academic year.
Student participation positively affects grades. Quality participation requires being prepared by having homework done, bringing required materials to class and then actively engaging in the class by asking good questions and providing thoughtful responses to questions asked.
Successful students are able to connect the past to the present through a daily awareness of current events taking place at the local, state, national and international levels. Successful students are also able to work both individually and cooperatively with others. Finally, students who do well in Social Studies classes demonstrate consistent compliance with both school-wide and class rules and show an understanding of the school mission.
Successful students, after an absence, promptly make up work missed and follow the “Make-up Work” instruction found in the Parent-Student Handbook. Also, it is critical that all students seek extra help as soon as there is a sense that either subject matter or teacher instruction is not clear.
This Department is committed to a successful and rewarding learning experience for all students.
