Welcome to Center School Physical Education.
I look forward to seeing your children twice a week for PE.
In each class I encourage the kids to try to get exercise on a daily basis. Any physical activity you can do with your children at home would help promote a healthier life style for them.
The students finished an underhand throwing unit a few weeks ago. We used an activity called ladderball to finish the unit. During class the students participated in a class tournament. The winners of the class tournament played in a school wide tournament with four teachers. Each student was matched up with a teacher. The whole school was able to watch the first two rounds of this double elimination tournament. We will be finishing the tournament next week.
The classes have begun a paddleball unit. We have reviewed the serve learned last year. I am now teaching the kids how to volley and why it is a necessary skill to have. I will also set up a tournament for the kids to participate in for the end of the unit.
After we finish paddleball, the classes will begin a volleyball unit. I will review the underhand serve and the bump. The students learned those skills in third and fourth grade. I will be emphasizing the bump(passing) during this unit. This skill is very difficult to master. Usually the developmental stage continues on into high school. I will introduce the overhand serve briefly in the unit. This is another difficult skill to master. I discuss strategy and team play throughout the unit.
