Center School Music
At Center School, Mr. Ernst currently teaches grades 3 and 4 General Music and Chorus. He also teaches some 5th Grade insrumental groups.
Grade 3 Music - Students are now playing Orff instruments, singing, reading from published music and developing a sense of Musical symbol recognition, as well as Musical form identification (ABACAB). They are understanding the relationship of text and written notation and how to follow along through performance.
Children also receive 30 minutes of Chorus bi-weekly to enhance their ensemble performance skills. They prepare for two public performances yearly and also have opportunity to perform at various assemblies throughout the school year.
Grade 4 Music - In addition to grade 3, students start to learn Recorder (A woodwind instrument developed in the 1400s). This is in preparation for the Grade 5 instrumental program. Staff notation, proper fingering, note values, articulation, and tone production are stressed.
Children are also given 30 minutes of Chorus bi-weelky with two performances per year.
